Have a Fling in Yountville
Yountville is the perfect place to fling yourself into. Whether you plan on enjoying a spring and summer fling or are having a harvest and holiday fling, there are many events, stores, restaurants, bistros, cafes, inns, bed and breakfasts, and tours to tantalize you. May we recommend: To start, check into Villagio Inn & Spa. The rooms are spacious, with fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs. Your cares drop away, replaced perhaps with an unfamiliar feeling . . . calm anticipation of great things to come. Begin your day at a leisurely pace. Stretch yourself, awaken your partner and enjoy the continental breakfast at Villagio, or saunter down Washington Street to Gordon's for one of the best breakfasts you will find in the United States . Spend a few minutes walking off your delicious meal and learn about Yountville's early days by visiting the pioneer cemetery north of the play-park. If you still want to enjoy the pace of a by-gone era, head back over to Gordon's, where directly across the street you can rent a Model A touring car from Napa Valley Model A Rentals. Take out a roadster with rumble seat, throw a picnic basket in the back, head north on Highway 29. Turn right on Oakville crossroad to the Silverado Trail. As you roll onto Silverado Trail, again head north to Mumm Napa Valley (can't miss it on your left). Pull in, and wander there are exhibits. Mumm has a permanent exhibit of Ansel Adams photographs related to the vines, as well as touring exhibits throughout the year. Check with the helpful staff, and once through the gallery, pick up a glass of the Mumm Blanc de Noir, head out to the patio, and enjoy the view! Slip back into you auto, and trundle off—south this time – down Silverado Trail. Look for the Yountville Crossroad sign, take a right and roll west back again toward Yountville. About three-quarters of a mile on your right, you will come upon a small turnout just past a short bridge. This is a wildlife reserve, and a simple hiking path down to the river. Take your snacks, your bottle of bubbly, and that blanket you tucked away, and follow the foot path to the river's edge. Make sure you're back in time for a session at the Spa at Villagio. The spa is scrupulously clean, comfortable and beautiful, offering skin care, and massage for singles or couples, as well as pool, sauna and a fitness area. No matter how you wind down your day, do so with the happy thought that should tomorrow be as nice, you could do it all over again! |
